Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare the fraction word problem solving ability, and 2) compare the mathematics learning achievement of Grade 5 students before and after receiving learning management using Polya’s problem-solving process combined with the bar model technique. This research was a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 17 Grade 5 students in one classroom during the second semester of the 2025 academic year at Ban Han Sai School, obtained through simple random sampling using the school as the sampling unit. The research instruments included: 1) 8 lesson plans for a total of 8 class periods, 2) a word problem solving ability test, and 3) a mathematics learning achievement test. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Paired Samples t-test.

The research results revealed as follows: 1) The Grade 5 students, after receiving the learning management using Polya’s problem-solving process combined with the bar model technique, had a fraction word problem solving ability posttest score significantly higher than their pretest score at the .05 level. 2) The Grade 5 students who received the learning management using Polya’s problem-solving process combined with the bar model technique had a mathematics learning achievement posttest score significantly higher than their pretest score at the .05 level.
