An Analytical Study of Manomayiddhi in Buddhism : A Case Study of Phra Culฺapanthaka Thera

Abstract
This thematic paper is of 2 objectives: 1) to study the principle of Manomayiddhi in Theravada Buddhism, and 2) to study the outstanding in Manomayiddhi of Culฺapanthaka Thera. It is the Documentary Research analyzed data from Tipitaka and it’s concerned texts. The results were found that :
1) The word Manomatddhi or Manomayaiddhi means the wisdom that makes something successful by mind. For example one can wishfully duplicate the new bodies those are resemble to the original body. These created bodies have composed of all complete organisms as well as the former body. Therefore Manomayiddhi is the mental success of the powerful monk.
2) On the expertise in Manomayiddhi of Culฺapanthaka Thera, it was found that in the beginning he is so dully person that he could not memorize only a single stanza. He, then, was guided to practice by the Buddha by rubbing the white cloth with say in his mind that “the dust cloth”. With this technic, he can attain the Arhattaship with the auspicious quality. That is the Manomayiddhi and power of mental flexibility as mentioned earlier. When Jivaka, the Doctor sent the man to invite him for alms, the man saw the 1,000 monks in the Tenple. He asked then who is the Culapanthaka, the 1,000 monks replied him the same word that I am Culpanthaka. This causes him confuse a lot, he then, was suggest by the Buddha that he must hold the hand of the first monk who stare reply first. That monk is real Culapanthaka. Whereby, the Buddha praised him as the most outstanding in Manomayiddhi and power of mental flexibility than the other Bhikkhus.
