PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE OF NIGHT TOURISM (A LITERATURE) REVIEW
Abstract
Night tourism, which focuses on activities and experiences available to tourists after sunset, has gained considerable attention in urban destinations worldwide. This study aims to examine the flow of research from the past to the present through a comprehensive review of papers published since the 2000s when the research topic of night tourism was studied. In addition, this paper proposes how night tourism should proceed in the future research direction. As a result of previous studies, in the past, night tourism has been activated as a negative image such as commercialization, gentrification, and entertainment. In recent years, as festivals and events that occur at night as the tourism industry have occurred, research focused on the tourists-perceived value and the functional aspects of night tourism has been conducted. Since the concept of night tourism has been reexamined, it has become apparent that there are insufficient research topics. To advance our knowledge, future research necessitates thorough exploration and analysis of diverse methodologies and approaches, including experimental, observational, and theoretical techniques. This comprehensive approach will enable a deeper understanding and richer discussion of the subject matter.
