Abstract

This research aimed to determine the optimal process for producing paper from Casuarina junghuhniana Mig. and to examine their chemical and physical properties. The study examined the raw material preparation process, pulp production, and the paper's chemical and physical properties. The factors studied were the amount of Casuarina junghuhniana Mig. replacement pulp at 3 levels (10, 20, and 30 percent by weight), and the type of paper pulp used to replace Casuarina junghuhniana Mig. is divided into 2 types: paper mulberry and recycled white pulp. A completely randomized factorial in CRD experimental design was used to evaluate 6 treatments, including a control lacking paper pulp. Physical properties, including moisture content, thickness, tear resistance, and appearance, were tested. The results showed that paper made from Casuarina junghuhniana Mig. Reinforced with 30 percent paper mulberry, it had the best properties, with a natural light-brown color and smoothness, making it suitable for handicrafts. It has a moisture content of 12.84, a thickness of 0.63 mm, and a tear strength of 3.33 N, which shows that the Casuarina junghuhniana Mig. is a natural material with the potential to be used to produce creative paper without creating any residual waste, and can be produced with a simple, economical, and environmentally friendly process.
