CULTURAL IDENTITY AND CULTURAL DISTRICT: THE CASE STUDY OF ARI-PRADIPHAT
Abstract
This research aims to examine the cultural identity of Ari-Pradiphat district through qualitative research methods, including document analysis, field surveys, and in-depth interviews. The study found that the cultural identity of the Ari-Pradiphat area is composed of three key components 1) Abstract characteristics are expressed through privately organized, paid activities, but the content often shows little connection to the local context. Furthermore, local residents tend to lack both participation and awareness 2) Symbols of the area are reflected through the architectural style of government buildings in the area, most of which follow a modernist design. These structures represent a sense of modernity and formality. 3) Significant historical event reveals two major transitional periods that shaped the identity of the district. Which is transformation of the area from agricultural land into a residential zone and the development of transportation. The study suggests that cultural identity promotion should start with a systematic collection of cultural data within the area. Additionally, encouraging community participation is essential to building a shared understanding and awareness of local cultural identity. This foundation can be used to develop meaningful cultural activities that reflect the true character of the district. Ultimately, these efforts will contribute to the sustainable promotion and preservation of the cultural identity of Ari-Pradiphat.
