IMAGES OF THE MALE HOMOSEXUAL CHARACTERS IN THE THAI FILM, TOEY THAI BAAN THE SERIES
Abstract
Toey Thai Baan (2025), a comedy film directed by Padej On-Lahoong presents friendship among northeastern gay and trans individuals who have to overcome the life obstacles, including gender identity, careers, relationships, and family issues. This study aims at analyzing images of male homosexual characters who have major roles in the narrative, utilizing textual analysis and the theory of representation and semiotics. The study concludes that the images of male homosexual characters are represented as lively people with colorful lifestyle, community entertainers, and people who gather to support each other with shared goals. The findings highlight the creation of male homosexual characters that is significantly attached to the marketing success of the film series, featuring northeastern men, and the images of homosexual men as focal points, indicating gender diversity in the series.
