Abstract

This qualitative study transliterates the Apaisanta scripture (Vol. 1) from the Royal Tamra Wetchasat (King Rama V, Vol. 3), and synthesizes ophthalmic knowledge contained therein. Text was transliterated into modern Thai orthography and independently verified by experts in language by comparing the orthography such as letters, vowels, tones and markers and Thai Traditional Medicine (TTM). The transliteration covered 9 markers and 50 pages of Apaisanta scripture. We cataloged 74 eye conditions (71 with described symptoms) and complied 70 remedies comprising 219 materia medica; scientific names were identified for 200 items and pharmacognostic categories for 212. TTM experts will use their knowledge to verify the accuracy the names of eye diseases and materia medica. The dataset enables easier retrieval of diseases, symptoms, and treatments, and may support more comprehensive TTM history-taking, diagnosis, and care, as well as future evidence-based studies.
