THE ESPORTS PLAYING BEHAVIOR AMONG THAI YOUTH
Abstract
The review of literature and related studies indicates that social and environmental factors are significantly associated with the esports playing behavior of Thai youth. Among these, media and technology, peers, and schools play critical roles in shaping attitudes, motivation, and self-efficacy towards esports participation. The growing social acceptance of esports as a professional sport, combined with institutional support such as school clubs and competitions, fosters more frequent and serious engagement in esports among students. Meanwhile, families remain influential as both regulators and supporters, helping to balance gaming with other aspects of life. Furthermore, self-control skills among youth serve as a crucial mechanism in mitigating negative effects from peer pressure and media influence. In conclusion, social and environmental factors collectively provide a strong explanatory framework for understanding esports playing behavior among Thai youth. This highlights the importance of developing policies and interventions that promote supportive and constructive environments, strengthen self-regulation skills, and encourage active involvement from families, schools, and communities. Such efforts can ensure that esports participation among youth leads to positive outcomes in learning, life skills, and future career opportunities.
