PROMOTING OF EXPLAIN PHENOMENA SCIENTIFICALLY COMPETENCY ON HEAT AND CHANGES OF MATTER FOR GRADE 7 STUDENTS BY USING MODEL-BASED LEARNING
Abstract
The purposes of this research were to study the explain phenomena scientifically competency of grade 7 students after using model-based learning and to compare their explain phenomena scientifically competency before and after model-based learning on Heat and Change of Matter. The sample group consisted of 34 grade 7 students, selected by purposive sampling. The research design was mixed method research. The research instruments included model-based learning lesson plans and a explain phenomena scientifically competency assessment on Heat and Change of Matter. Statistics used for data analysis included mean, standard deviation, and dependent t-test. The results revealed that: 1) Most students had explain phenomena scientifically performances as level 1 in pre-test and improved their performance as level 3 in post-test. 2) Students' explain phenomena scientifically performances were a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. This suggests that using model-based learning can enhance students' scientific explanation competency on heat and changes of matter.
