THE DEVELOPING READING AND SPELLING ABILITY AND SELF-MANAGEMENT COMPETENCIES USING BRAIN BASED LEARNING WITH MULTIMEDIA FOR GRADE 1 STUDENTS
Abstract
The objective of the research was to develop reading and spelling ability using Brain-Based Learning with Multimedia for grade 1 students so that students would have average score not less than 70% of total score, and at least 70% of the students pass the criteria. The target group consisted of 16 Grade 1 students in Ban Pakho School, under the Udonthani Office of Primary Education Area 2, selected through purposive sampling. The research design was Action Research. The research instruments categorized into 3 categories were: 1) experiment tool, including 6 lesson plans for 12 hours, 2) reflection tool, consisting instruction records form, a teaching and student behavior observation form, a student interview form and end-of-spiral quizzes on the student’s reading and spelling ability, and 3) evaluation tool consisting of the assessment of the students’ reading and spelling ability. Quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, consisting arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and percentage, Qualitative data were analyzed by using content analysis. The results found that the students had an average of spelling and reading ability score for 17.69 or 88.45% of the total score, and there were 14 students, or 87.50% passed the criteria, which was higher than defined criteria.
