THE DEVELOPMENT UNDERSTANDING OF CULTURAL DIFFERENCES USING PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING WITH MULTIMEDIA FOR GRADE 10 STUDENTS

Abstract

The objective of the research was to develop understanding of cultural differences using Problem-Based Learning with Multimedia for grade 10 students so that students would have average score not less than 70% of total score, and at least 70% of the students pass the criteria. The target group consisted of 16 Grade 10 students in Muangwan Phatthanasuksa School under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Khon Kaen, selected through purposive sampling. The research design was Action Research. The research instruments categorized into 3 categories were: 1) experiment tool, including 6 lesson plans for 12 hours, 2) reflection tool, consisting instruction records form, a teaching and student behavior observation form, a student interview form and end-of-spiral quizzes on the student’s understanding of cultural differences ability, and 3) evaluation tool consisting of the assessment of the students’ understanding of cultural differences ability. Quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, consisting arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and percentage, Qualitative data were analyzed by using content analysis. The results found that the students had an average of understanding of cultural differences ability score for 22.68 or 75.60% of the total score, and there were 13 students, or 81.25% of the score passed the criteria, which was higher than defined criteria.
