DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES FOR HOUSING PROJECTS FOR AGING SOCIETY IN THAILAND: A CASE STUDY OF BAAN EUA-ARTHORN
Abstract
This study aims to explore and propose development approaches for residential housing projects that respond to the needs of an aging society in Thailand. The research focuses on analyzing the conditions of existing housing projects and examining the lifestyle, cultural context, and economic circumstances of low-income populations in order to create an environment conducive to long-term living for older adults. A qualitative research methodology was employed, including surveys, observations, in-depth interviews with experts, and opinion surveys of elderly residents in selected housing projects. The findings indicate that significant improvements are needed to align these projects with the basic needs of the elderly, which include access to quality healthcare services, social support systems, and daily living amenities. Proper residential design should accommodate all age groups and address the specific needs of an aging society. Coordination among government agencies, the private sector, and community stakeholders is proposed as a key strategy for the development of such projects. The results of this study can be applied to future housing policy for an aging society, with the goal of enhancing quality of life and fostering sustainable living in the context of Thailand’s rapidly changing demographic landscape.
