EDUCATION AND SOCIAL CHANGE: A STUDY OF MUSLIM SOCIETIES IN ALLAKUANG AND DDI
Abstract
This research investigates the intricate relationship between education and social change within two distinct Muslim communities: Allakuang and those affiliated with Indonesia's Darul Dakwah Wal Irsyad (DDI) organization. Focusing on qualitative data collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, the study examines how educational initiatives have impacted various aspects of social life, including economic development, gender roles, and religious practices. The findings reveal that education has been pivotal in fostering social mobility, empowering women, and promoting religious understanding within these communities. However, the study also highlights the challenges and complexities associated with educational reform, such as the need to address disparities in access to quality education, the importance of culturally sensitive pedagogical approaches, and the ongoing struggle to reconcile traditional values with the demands of a rapidly changing world. By exploring the multifaceted relationship between education and social change in these specific contexts, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the transformative potential of education in Muslim societies while acknowledging the unique challenges and opportunities within each community.
