THE ROLE OF UNIVERSITIES IN DRIVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Abstract
This academic article aims to study the significant role of universities in Thailand in driving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through education, research, and collaboration with various sectors. Universities serve as knowledge and research hubs that can be utilized to address complex and sustainable issues. The primary roles of universities in driving SDGs include education and research, technology and innovation development, collaboration, and raising awareness. Several Thai universities, such as Mahidol University, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, and Loei Rajabhat University, are internationally recognized for their contributions to driving SDGs through research and the development of sustainability-focused curricula. Additionally, universities play a role in developing technologies and innovations that can be applied to sustainable development, fostering both local and international collaborations, and raising awareness about SDGs among students and communities. Universities should promote research and development of technologies related to clean energy and natural resource management, as well as organize activities to raise awareness about SDGs and establish continuous evaluation and reporting systems. Through these roles, universities in Thailand significantly contribute to driving SDGs and creating a sustainable society in the long term.
