THE ROLES OF COMMUNITY LEADERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF STRENGTH COMMUNITIES: A CASE STUDY OF PAK KRET MUNICIPALITY, NONTHABURI PROVINCE

Abstract

This article aimed to study 1) the problems and requirements of the community in Pak Kret Municipality, Nonthaburi Province 2) the roles of community leaders in the development of strength community: a case study of Pak Kret Municipality. Key informants were 21 community committees in Pak Kret municipality. Research tool was semi-structured interview guideline. Data were collected through in-depth interview. Data were analyzed using descriptive methods. Research results found that 1) The problems and requirements of the community were: people in the community had various needs that focus on community safety and health care. Since the present era that moving towards an aging society, most of the elderly stayed home and people in the community had a primary needs for safety in the community. Moreover various projects should emphasis on the elderly to take care of themselves in the right way and do activities together. 2) The roles of community leaders in developing a strength community: they consisted 7 roles, including 1) administrative department role 2) prevention and maintaining peace department role 3) finance department role 4) social welfare department role 5) public health department role 6) development department role and 7) education department role. Key success factors of strength community were caring of committee, concerning on people in community, listening the problems and opinions for resolving that problems. Moreover community leaders could ask some helps from Pak Kret municipality and other agencies.
