This research aims to study the in-depth data of factors related to feeding behavior of primary caregivers in relation to the oral health status of preschool children with cleft lip and palate (CLCP). The qualitative research method was used to collect data through in-depth interviews on 14 primary caregivers of children with CLCP aged between 1 year 4 months and 4 years 3 months who received treatment at the Tawanchai Center, Khon Kaen University. Some specific aspects were found, such as the timing of bottle weaning, that almost all participants were able to wean their child off the bottle after palate surgery. Therefore, the nighttime bottle feeding was also omitted before 12 months of age. In children with dental caries, it was found that primary caregivers were not aware of an appropriate use of bottle feeding, in addition to having other risk factors, such as adding sugary drinks in bottle. Children with CLCP had more opportunities to access dental care than typically preschool children. Therefore, it is crucial to provide education and preventive strategies for primary caregivers regarding feeding practices during critical periods, especially before palate surgery. Primary caregivers who lack knowledge on the appropriate feeding practice and those, who do not have an access to the preschool oral health care information.
