Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the conditions of using local materials to enhance young children's fine motor skills; 2) develop activity plans for loose-parts play and creative art-making using local materials to enhance young children's fine motor skills; and 3) compare young children's fine motor skills before and after implementing the loose-parts play and creative art-making activities using local materials. The target group consisted of 14 young children aged 3-4 years, enrolled in Kindergarten 1 at Ban Pa Sao School under the Chamadevi Educational Quality Development Network, Mueang Lamphun District, Lamphun Province, during the first semester of the 2025 academic year. The research instruments included 24 activity plans, a fine motor skills assessment form, and a structured interview form. Data were analyzed using content analysis, mean (), standard deviation (SD), Index of Item-Objective Congruence ($IOC$), and the dependent-samples t-test. The results indicated that: 1) Regarding the conditions of using local materials, teachers categorized and utilized local materials into six main categories: natural materials, wood, plastic, metal, fabric/ribbon, and packaging materials. 2) The activity plans achieved an IOC score of 1.00, indicating high content validity and meeting the established quality criteria. 3) The fine motor skills of young children after the implementation ( = 11.93, SD = 0.27) were significantly higher than those before the implementation ( = 4.71, SD = 0.99) at the .01 significance level.
