QUALITY OF WORK LIFE OF FIREFIGHTING AND RESCUE PERSONNEL OF OPERATION DIVISION 4 BANGKOK FIRE AND RESCUE DEPARTMENT BANGKOK METROPOLITAN ADMINISTRATION

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the level of quality of working life (QWL) of officers in Fire and Rescue Operations Division 4, and 2) to compare QWL based on personal factors of officers in Fire and Rescue Operations Division 4 Fire and Rescue Department, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. The sample consisted of 144 officers, determined by Taro Yamane’s formula (1973) from a population of 225. Data were collected via a questionnaire with an overall reliability coefficient of 0.978, and analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and One-way ANOVA. Post-hoc comparisons were to be conducted using the Scheffé method where significant differences were found, at the .05 level of statistical significance.The research findings indicated that: 1) Most of the respondents were male, aged 41-50, holding a bachelor's degree, with a monthly income exceeding 30,000 Baht, stationed at Lat Krabang Fire Station, and having over 20 years of service. 2) The overall quality of working life was at a high level. Individually, social integration and social relevance of work life received the highest scores. Conversely, constitutionalism (administrative style), adequate and fair compensation, and total life space (work-life balance) received lower scores, remaining at a moderate level. Key areas of concern included the perceived inadequacy of compensation relative to risky missions and insufficient rest periods. And 3) Hypothesis testing revealed that personal factors—including gender, age, education level, monthly income, workplace station, and years of service—did not result in statistically significant differences in QWL at the .05 level.
