THE IMPACT OF PARTICULATE MATTER FROM OPEN BURNING ON PEOPLE IN LAT KRABANG DISTRICT, BANGKOK METROPOLITAN ADMINISTRATION

Abstract

The objectives of this quantitative research were: 1) to study the impact of particulate matter from open burning on people in Lat Krabang District, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and 2) to compare this impact when classified by personal factors. The sample group consisted of 400 residents living in Lat Krabang District, selected using Taro Yamane’s sampling formula. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. The statistics used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, Standard Deviation, and for hypothesis testing: the t-test and One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results found that: 1) The personal factors, most respondents were male, aged 20 to 30 years, married and living together, held a bachelor's degree, resided in Khlong Song Ton Nun Subdistrict, and worked as private company employees. 2) The overall impact of particulate matter from open burning on people in Lat Krabang District was rated at a high level, when considering each dimension, the impacts were also at a high level in all aspects. Sorted averages from highest to lowest as follows: the Psychological, followed by Environmental impact, Social impact, and Physical impact, respectively. 3) The comparative analysis of the impact of particulate matter from open burning on people in Lat Krabang District, classified by personal factors revealed that people in Lat Krabang with different genders, marital statuses, and occupations were not different in impact with statistically significant at the .05 level. However, people in Lat Krabang with different ages, educational levels and residential areas were different in impact with statistically significant at the .05 level.
