CALLIGRAPHIC FORM AS CULTURAL BRAND COMMUNICATION: A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK FOR PREMIUM THAI PACKAGING
Abstract
This paper examines calligraphy as a culturally meaningful form of brand communication in premium Thai packaging. Using a qualitative literature-informed conceptual synthesis, it integrates scholarship on calligraphy, aesthetic theory, cultural symbolism, packaging design, and brand differentiation. The synthesis organizes the literature into five interrelated dimensions: calligraphic form, aesthetic and expressive meaning, cultural-symbolic meaning, packaging integration, and theorized brand communication functions. It also develops literature-derived principles concerning compositional coherence, cultural appropriateness, material congruence, visual hierarchy, and legibility. The paper concludes that calligraphy should be approached as a culturally situated design system capable of connecting artistic heritage, premium brand expression, and contemporary packaging identity.
