EFFECT OF SILVER DIAMINE FLUORIDE ON MICROTENSILE BOND STRENGTH OF DEMINERALIZED DENTIN

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the differences in microtensile bond strength (mTBS) on demineralized dentin when silver diamine fluoride (SDF) was applied, followed by different adhesive modes. Thirty-two extracted human premolars were used. All specimens randomly divided into four groups, categorized by SDF-treated and untreated dentin, after a two-week period, resin composite restorations were performed using different adhesive modes (Etch and Rinse or Self-etch). Specimens were prepared for mTBS test. The debonded dentin surfaces and the adhesive-dentin interfaces were observed using a light microscope and scanning electron microscope. The results of mTBS were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post-hoc test with statistical significance level of .05. The results showed that SDF-treated demineralized dentin significantly increase mTBS compared to non-SDF treated group restored with self-etch mode. In contrast, SDF-treated demineralized dentin groups were not significantly different from non-SDF treated group restored with etch and rinse mode. In conclusion, the restorative methods of demineralized teeth when SDF was applied for two weeks, both etch and rinse and self-etch modes can be used.
