The Development of Competencies for the 21st Century Librarians in Rajabhat Universities

The objective of this study is to examine the opinions of librarians at Rajabhat universities in Thailand about the enhancement of librarian competencies in the 21st century. The research sample comprises 140 librarians from 38 Rajabhat university libraries nationwide. Proportional stratified random sampling is a method of selecting a sample from a population in a way that ensures each stratum is represented in proportion to its size. Research tools employed in the study included both closed-ended and open-ended questionnaires. The data analysis involved computing percentages, means, and standard deviations. The research findings indicate that librarians possess a high degree of skills in all areas when it comes to their development in the 21st century. The highest average score is achieved in personal qualities, followed by professional ethics, skills competency, and teamwork. Librarians demonstrate a high level of knowledge capabilities, particularly in relation to information resources. This research presents development options for enhancing academic librarian competencies in the 21st century, organised according to certain tasks. The librarians highly assess the development plans for all abilities. They exhibit a profound understanding of competency development. Individual qualities, ethical standards in the workplace, proficiency in skills, and collaboration. The competencies in knowledge acquisition and the development of information resources.
