Women’s Clothing Patternmaking Skills Development Using Davies’ Instructional Model Combined with Skill Training Kits for First-Year Higher Vocational Certificate Program Students

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to develop a skill training package integrated with Davies' instructional model to enhance women's clothing patternmaking skills among first-year vocational certificate students, targeting a performance criterion of 75/75; 2) to compare the students' patternmaking skills after using the skill training package with the 75% benchmark; and 3) to study the students' satisfaction with the instructional model based on Davies' approach integrated with the skill training package. The research employed a group post-test design. The target group consisted of 20 first-year vocational certificate students enrolled in the course 31804-2003: Pattern Making and Sewing Techniques for Women's Clothing at the Thung Yang Daeng District Vocational Training Center in the second semester of the 2024 academic year. The research instruments included three lesson plans, three sets of skill training packages, a skill assessment form, and a satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The results showed that the effectiveness of the instructional model was 76.86/82.94, which was higher than the set criterion of 75/75. Students' patternmaking skills were significantly higher than the 75% benchmark at the 0.01 level of statistical significance. Additionally, their satisfaction was at a high level, with the highest mean score in the aspect of benefits gained, followed by learning process and content, respectively.
