Lanna Tung: Iconography of Buddhism

Abstract

The ìTungî is the worthy invention of the ancient wisdom. beliefs. traditions and cultures of the Lan Na people. It also plays an important role and influence on the daily life of Lan Na people from the past to present. from birth to death. Tung inventing or Tung offering has been believed to be associated with Buddhist rituals and various traditions associated with Lan Na peopleís way of life. It can be said that Tung is a symbol of goodness and prosperity. and is also a means of conveying the spirit of the Tung givers and the souls of those who have passed away to heaven reliably. Tung is a tribute to the sacrifice in Buddhism. Therefore. the Tung offering is considered an ancient and important cultural heritage of Lan Na people. and also reflects the wisdom of the ancestors who have passed on from one generation to another until today. The legend of ìTungî is based on wisdom and belief for happiness and prosperity of the present and future generations. So. this should be treated and carried on undoubtedly.
