This research article aims to explore the potential of soil as a material for creating new works of art. The objectives of the study were as follows: 1. To identify suitable materials for artistic creation; 2. To investigate the artistic potential of soil; 3. To study the process of using soil in art creation; and 4. To create works of art for public exhibition using the research methodology. The findings of this study are summarized below:
- Materials for Artistic Creation: The research identified clay and loamy clay as suitable materials for creating new works of art. These soils have high resolution and exhibit flexibility when wet while clumping when dry. They can be easily shaped or rolled into long lines and possess excellent water retention properties.
- Artistic Potential of Clay: The study revealed that clay is highly suitable for artistic creation due to its unique properties, such as its toughness resulting in strength. Clay can be molded and manipulated to create visual beauty through the incorporation of lines and textures.
- Process of Creating Art with Clay: The use of clay as a medium in artistic creation allows for the communication of visual language. The visual elements involved in this process include lines and traces that evoke a sense of movement and emotion. The color of the clay material conveys meaning and represents the world.
- Innovative Artistic Creation: This research led to the development of a new form of artistic creation that goes beyond pure clay material. The resulting artworks combine three painting techniques, culminating in the exhibition titled "Movement 2022," which was held at ARDEL Gallery of Contemporary Art, Borommaratchachonnani Road, Bangkok, from July 20th to 28th, 2022. The exhibition aimed to appreciate and emphasize the aesthetic value of these unique artworks.
