Public Readiness and Expectations for Development into a New Border Crossing Ban Romfa Thai, Tap Tao Subdistrict, Thoeng District, Chiang Rai

Abstract

This research is aimed at (1) examine the level of public readiness for the development of Ban Romfa Thai, Tap Tao Subdistrict, Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province into a new border crossing. (2) To study the level of public expectations toward the development of Ban Romfa Thai, Tap Tao Subdistrict, Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province as a new border crossing. (3) To propose area-based development guidelines for Ban Romfa Thai, Tap Tao Subdistrict, Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province.

            The sample consisted of 188 respondents. Data was collected using a questionnaire. The statistical methods used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation.

            The findings revealed that 1) the overall level of public readiness for development into a new border crossing at Ban Romfa Thai, Tap Tao Subdistrict, Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province was at a high level. 2) The overall level of public expectations regarding the development of Ban Romfa Thai, Tap Tao Subdistrict, Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province into a new border crossing was found to be high. 3) The proposed area-based development guidelines for Ban Rom Fah Thai, Tab Tao Subdistrict, Thoeng District, Chiang Rai Province, indicate that the overall readiness of the community and the area is at a moderate to relatively low level, particularly in terms of infrastructure, goods transportation systems, local market competitiveness, access to basic public services, and border security. In contrast, public expectations regarding the development of a new border checkpoint are at a high level, encompassing economic opportunities, quality of life, environmental management, and community safety. The findings clearly reflect a gap between the existing level of area readiness and the expectations of the local population.
