This research aimed to examine the needs and challenges in establishing a social support network for elderly caregivers, and design a tailored social support network model, and assess the model’s effectiveness in improving the quality of life of caregivers and elderly individuals in Nong Ki District, Buriram Province. Quantitative data were collected from 168 caregivers using a multi-stage random sampling technique. While qualitative data were gathered from 30 key informants using purposive sampling. Research instruments included a questionnaire on caregiving challenges and needs, in-depth interview guides, focus group and the WHOQOL-BREF-THAI. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics for quantitative data and content analysis for qualitative data. The research findings revealed that the majority of caregivers were female (72.6%). The most significant challenges identified were lack of knowledge and caregiving skills (72.5%) and insufficient social support (55.7%). Caregivers expressed highest needs for information regarding rights and welfare benefits (mean score 3.43) and support from community organizations (mean score 3.36).The developed social network model comprised five key components: network membership, management structure, resources, activities and services, and communication and knowledge-sharing systems. Additionally, six operational mechanisms were established: management mechanisms, member capacity development, network coordination and linkage, caregiver support, monitoring and evaluation, and sustainability development. Results from the model implementation demonstrated statistically significant improvements in caregivers' overall quality of life (p<.001), particularly in psychological well-being and social relationships. Caregivers also exhibited reduced stress levels (p<.001) and enhanced caregiving knowledge and skills (p<.001). Key success factors included leadership from core members, support from local administrative organizations, and continuous knowledge exchange activities. This research demonstrates that a systematically designed social network with clear operational mechanisms can effectively enhance caregiver capacity and improve the quality of life for elderly individuals in the community.
