In this academic article, the author will present knowledge on human past life recall in Buddhism. Knowledge from this article found that past life recall is a phenomenon that a person can recall or remember when in a past life they would become the present person, such as who they were, where they were, what they did, and how they lived. The belief in past life recall is related to the belief in karma and reincarnation. This article uses the cases of Mr. Chanai Chumalaiwong and Ms. Sudarat Sananmuang for analysis. In Buddhism, recalling past lives is called “Pubbenivasanussati-nana”, which has three types: (1) recalling multiple lives (2) recalling past lives by birth (3) recalling past lives through practice. “Pubbenivasanussati-nana” can occur in four ways: (1) a person develops a vision well (2) determines the vision in the mind (3) calms the faculties (4) develops abilities. And recalling past lives from “Nuna-anisate-nana” comes from the hypnosis of others. It arises from the inspiration of a person with higher psychic power and the strong impression of the event before death in the previous life.
