The Impact of Sustainable Logistics Management on Transportation Cost Reduction of Businesses in Pathum Thani Province

Abstract

This article aims (1) to examine the patterns of sustainable logistics management among businesses in Pathum Thani Province, and (2) to investigate the relationship between sustainable logistics management and the reduction of transportation costs. The study employs a quantitative research approach, using the concepts of Sustainable Supply Chain Management proposed by Carter and Rogers and the Triple Bottom Line framework of Elkington as the research framework. The study area is Pathum Thani Province. The sample consists of 200 entrepreneurs or logistics managers of businesses operating in Pathum Thani Province, selected through simple random sampling. The research instruments include three types: (1) a questionnaire, (2) an interview guide, and (3) a focus group discussion guideline. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, as well as inferential statistics using correlation analysis. Qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis and presented in a descriptive narrative form.

The findings indicate that businesses in Pathum Thani Province demonstrate a moderate to high level of sustainable logistics management, with particular emphasis on transportation route planning, efficient energy utilization, and the reduction of environmental impacts. Furthermore, sustainable logistics management shows a positive and statistically significant relationship with the reduction of transportation costs.

The knowledge generated from this study can be applied as a guideline for developing sustainable logistics management at the local level in order to enhance transportation efficiency, reduce operational costs, and support long-term sustainable business development.
