Development of Buddhist Learning Center to Enhance the Smart Community of Skaw Karen in Chiang Mai Province

Abstract

This research article aimed to: 1) examine the concepts for designing and developing a cultural learning center of the Pga K’nyau (Karen) ethnic group in Chiang Mai Province; 2) develop an online Pga K’nyau learning center using an information system (Google Sites) in Chiang Mai Province; and 3) evaluate the online Pga K’nyau learning center developed through the information system (Google Sites). The research employed documentary research, qualitative research, and participatory action research approaches. The research instruments included in-depth interview guidelines, focus group discussions, and workshops for developing knowledge resources. The participants consisted of religious leaders, community leaders, representatives from government agencies, youth groups, and members of the Pga K’nyau ethnic group in Galyani Vadhana District, Chiang Mai Province, totaling 200 participants. Data were analyzed using descriptive content analysis.

The research findings revealed that: 1) the design and development concepts of the cultural learning center should reflect the way of life, beliefs, traditions, and local wisdom of the Pga K’nyau ethnic group, emphasizing community participation and the integration of indigenous knowledge; 2) the development of the online Pga K’nyau learning center through an information system (Google Sites) effectively presents information on history, culture, ways of life, and community activities in a systematic and accessible manner that is consistent with the local context; and 3) the evaluation results from experts and community users indicated that the developed online Pga K’nyau learning center was appropriate, effective, and could clearly serve as a cultural learning resource for the Pga K’nyau ethnic group in Chiang Mai Province.
