Innovation in Cold Enameling on Contemporary Thai Painting Designs for Career Development

Abstract

This research article aims to achieve three objectives: 1) to study the concept of enamel application from the past to the present, 2) to design and create innovative cold enamel works inspired by Thai applied mural patterns, and 3) to integrate enamel application knowledge through practical activities for career development in Huai Sak Sub-district, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province. This study adopts a qualitative research approach, emphasizing the exploration of concepts and the application of knowledge through hands-on activities. The research employs a creative methodology to design and develop innovative works, as well as to integrate knowledge into sustainable community-based career development.

The findings revealed that 1) enamel painting is a technique with continuous development from the past, emphasizing conservation alongside technological advancement. 2) The research process led to the design of mural patterns that combine traditional Thai elements with cold-enamel techniques, resulting in unique creative works. 3) Additionally, the community-based activities played a significant role in knowledge and skill transfer. Participants were able to learn the entire process, from designing and material preparation to the
application of enamel painting. The outcomes of these activities empowered the community to utilize the acquired knowledge to develop products for income generation and contributed to preserving local culture while creating sustainable livelihoods. This research holds significance in the dimensions of art, culture, and community-level economic development.
