Guidelines for enhancing the Buddhist Lanna Songs

Abstract

Kita Lannaî involves singing, playing musical instruments, and
performing folk songs. The repertoire includes traditional folk music such as Singing ìKhaoî, ìJoyî, ìSawî, ìKham Mueangî folk songs, and ìLuk Thung Kham Mueangî. These songs, also known as folk songs, reflect the way of life of the people, particularly in Lanna society. The lyrics are written in the native Lanna language, which adds to the charm of the performance. When we listen to these songs, we experience a profound sense of love for the local language and a desire to preserve this folk music for future generations. Folk songs convey important moral lessons, often rooted in Buddhist teachings. They serve as a reminder of the consequences of our actions, making us aware that engaging in immoral behavior will result in negative karma. The songs evoke a sense of guilt, merit, and responsibility, such as the ones based on the Five Precepts. This art form is deeply connected to local culture and should be promoted, preserved, and nurtured for the benefit of future generations. It is essential that they have the opportunity to witness and appreciate this valuable art and culture, ensuring its continuation within the Lanna community.
