Abstract

This research entitled “Silo-Busting Processes to Enhance Communication and Collaboration in Organizations: A Case Study of a Packaging Industry Company” aimed to 1) analyze the problems and impacts of silo-based working on communication efficiency and collaboration within organizations, and 2) propose guidelines for improving communication and teamwork through silo-busting processes. This study employed a qualitative research methodology using a case study approach. The key informants consisted of 40 executives, supervisors, and employees from various departments within a packaging industry company, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection methods included in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis. The collected data were analyzed using content analysis.

The findings revealed that silo-based working resulted in disconnected communication, inaccurate information, delayed coordination, and duplicated tasks, which reduced interdepartmental collaboration and negatively affected overall organizational performance. The key approaches to breaking down organizational silos included improving internal communication systems, establishing shared organizational goals, promoting a collaborative culture, and strengthening leadership support for cross-functional collaboration. The new body of knowledge derived from this study indicates that effective silo-busting requires simultaneous development of both organizational systems and employee behaviors in order to create integrated workflows, improve communication efficiency, and foster sustainable collaboration within organizations.
