Abstract

The objectives of this research were to: (1) examine the roles of network partners in collaboratively developing community products and (2) study the participatory processes of network partners in product development and value-added innovation for community products. A qualitative research approach was employed, using participant observation and in-depth interviews. Key informants included university representatives, community leaders, Thai dessert group representatives, members of Chang Noi Subdistrict, and representatives of Anukuncharam Temple, with a total of 49 participants. Data were analyzed from documents and related research under the framework of New Public Governance, and the results from in-depth interviews were summarized and presented through descriptive narration.

The results reveal that: 1. Network partners shared a common goal of adding value to community products through innovation, particularly the development of crispy Mor Kaeng dessert. The university played a key role in initiating and driving the project through co-creation with community leaders and local producers, integrating local wisdom with innovation to extend the product’s shelf life. The temple supported the project by providing space for development activities. 2. The collaborative process of network partners in developing products and creating innovation for community products is a theoretical finding in building collaboration among all sectors initiated by the public sector. The process starts from joint planning, co-commissioning, co-design, co-delivery, and co-assessment, resulting in a new community product that enhanced both economic value and innovation, with the community acting as both producers and beneficiaries. The practical implication and application of this study propose a model of multi-sector collaboration as a guideline for developing community products, adding value, and creating innovation to enhance income for people within the community and to strengthen collaborative roles for sustainable area development.
