Development of Savings and Career Patented of the Elderly for Sustainable Living in the Upper North

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the general condition of saving and occupation of elderly for sustainable life in the North of Thailand, 2) to study the saving potentials and occupation of elderly for sustainable life in the North of Thailand and 3) to
develop the saving potentials and occupation of elderly for sustainable life in the North of Thailand. It was a qualitative research by emphasizing action research. It collected from key informant by using the interview the elderly about career and concern totals 14 persons and the sample in actions group activities namely; the elderly in the Elderly School of Nacak Sub-District Administrative Organization and the Elderly School of Naniose Municipality each 50 persons total 100 persons. The results were as follows:

1. The study showed that the government that had prospect in saving supporting as National Saving Found for retirement age, National Saving Found 2015. However, most of people and retirement age had not yet this issue and also had not applied for member of the National Saving Found. The public sector must do public relation. For the occupation aspects of elderly, it was found that they need earn a living in part time and need the government to encourage the occupation and money in full time.

2. The study found that the Elderly School of Phrae and Nan Province had played important role in saving supporting and occupation development for elderly which had not had more labor namely training for local sweets, Khowtan, Khowcap, Basket Making, Paper Fag Making, Dry Flower Making, Cloth Flower and paper Making. For Nan Province, the people had supported on Basket Making, Cloth Weave, creative flower making, food and basic sweet making. The basic occupation of community was not developed to become sustainable occupation. It had only one school which could have developed sustainably such as the Elderly School of Nacak Sub-District Administrative Organization, Muang District, and Phrae Province. It had a person as Mrs. Boajan Sujarit, age 72 years. She made local sweets- Khowtan, Khowcap and Khawpan. Nan Province area could not develop. There were
saving supporting in both group and person by passing village bank. Most of elderly had not have income or had low income that was not sufficient for saving. Moreover, the elderly student liked to go to school, because they had happiness with the various activities which could develop body, mentality, emotion and society, and did not make them felt lonely.

3. The study found that the community had the old occupation as cultivation. The developing occupations were the Lanna Lam production and Paper Flower production which were developed for permanent occupation from the local administrator. It had put in the action plan in budget 2019. The limitations of elderly potential development were the old age, less strong, and sick. These limitations were important obstacles to saving and occupation of the elderly.
