Factors Affecting Public Participation in Development of Nongprue Municipality, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province

Abstract

This study aims to (1) examine the level of awareness regarding smart cities and the level of public participation in the transition to a smart city in Nong Prue Municipality. In addition, (2) it compares public participation in the transition to a smart city in Nong Prue Municipality based on personal factors. Furthermore, (3) it investigates the relationship between awareness of smart cities and public participation in the transition to a smart city in Nong Prue Municipality, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. The sample consists of 398 residents aged 20 and over living in the Nong Prue Municipality area, selected proportionally according to the population of each zone and sampled conveniently. This research is quantitative in nature, utilizing a questionnaire as the research instrument with a 5-point Likert scale. The statistical methods used for data analysis include frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation analysis. The research findings indicate that (1) the overall level of awareness regarding smart cities is high, and the level of public participation in the transition to a smart city is also high. (2) The comparison of public participation shows that residents in Nong Prue Municipality, categorized by personal factors, exhibit statistically significant differences in their level of participation in the transition to a smart city at the .05 level. (3) Smart city awareness was positively correlated with public participation in the transition to a smart city (r = .308, p < .01).
