Abstract

This book review, "The Duties of Human Beings" aims to study the duties of human beings. Khemaka, the founder of the Dhamma Sabha, described sixteen duties of human beings. The word "human being" is divided into three levels: outsiders, insiders, and those within humanity. Duty is something that must be done. Human beings are those with noble hearts. Parents teach their children not to do evil; all children must obey their parents' teachings. Teachers impart knowledge; students obey their teachers' teachings. Friends must be compassionate, sharing joy and sorrow. A husband has a duty to his wife, and a wife has a duty to her husband. Civil servants must strictly adhere to civil service regulations. Police officers have the duty to alleviate suffering and promote the well-being of the people. Soldiers have the duty to protect independence and sovereignty. Merchants must be honest in their profession. Senior officers must be kind to their subordinates, and subordinates must respect their seniors. Laypeople must abstain from vices. When everyone fulfills their duties, society will be peaceful.
