JIBS Activities: Scopus CSAB Meets Thai Editors and Local Boards

The Thai-Journal Citation Index (TCI) Centre, with financial support and collaboration from the Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) Office, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), and the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), organized a meeting titled "Scopus CSAB Meets Thai Editors and Local Boards" on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Jupiter 12 Room, Challenger Hall, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi. The meeting brought together 152 participants, which included local board members, journal editors, editorial teams, and stakeholders from the TCI-TSRI-Scopus Collaboration Project.

This meeting aimed to enhance understanding and knowledge regarding the development of Thai journals indexed in Scopus and further improve their quality. The TCI Centre invited Prof. Richard Whatmore, a Scopus CSAB Subject Chair from the University of St Andrews in the United Kingdom, to be the keynote speaker.

Additionally, the event featured a panel discussion with editors-in-chief of Thai journals indexed in Scopus Quartiles 1 and 2, who shared their insights and experiences in journal management after being accepted into the Scopus database.

Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Damrong Adulyarittikul, a member of the Local Boards, shared his experiences on the project committee, providing valuable insights for journal editors in attendance. The session was a knowledge-sharing platform to support Thai academic journals' continued development and success in Scopus.

JIBS Activities: Exciting News for JIBS Reviewers!

Thai-Journal Citation Index (TCI) is launching a new initiative to recognize our dedicated reviewers, who are essential for maintaining the quality of academic publications. TCI invites all journal editors to rate their reviewers after each article evaluation using the ThaiJO system (Review Detail > Reviewer Rating). This initiative starts now and aims to celebrate our reviewers and their important contributions to the academic community.

Reviewer scores will be collected from February 16 to September 30, 2025, for the 2025 Annual Recognition of Outstanding Reviewers. In October 2025, the Reviewer Recognition and Certificates system will open for editors to choose and acknowledge outstanding reviewers. We will announce the final list of honorees in December 2025, followed by the presentation of official certificates recognizing their excellence.

We encourage all JIBS reviewers to keep up their great work, as your efforts will be recognized and celebrated. This is a fantastic opportunity to be acknowledged for your commitment to academic excellence! Thank you for your dedication to advancing scholarly research and helping JIBS maintain its high academic standards!

JIBS Activities: JIBS New Year Update: Progress, Insights, and Opportunities in Buddhist Studies

Dear Colleagues,

As we welcome the New Year, I am pleased to share some recent developments from the Journal of International Buddhist Studies (JIBS). Our commitment to advancing Buddhist scholarship remains strong, and we have launched several initiatives to further this mission.

Call for Submissions: Buddhism and Contemporary Challenges

We invite submissions for our upcoming issue, which will focus on "Buddhism and Contemporary Challenges." This theme explores how Buddhist teachings and practices address modern societal issues, such as mental health, social engagement, and ethical decision-making. We encourage scholars to contribute original research that connects traditional Buddhist insights with contemporary concerns.

Engagement with the Academic Community

In March 2024, JIBS engaged with students from the International Buddhist Studies College (IBSC), fostering dialogue and encouraging emerging scholars in the field. Additionally, in December 2023, we participated in the Scopus Journal Quality Meeting with the Thai Journal Citation Index (TCI), highlighting our commitment to maintaining high academic standards.

System Development and Quality Improvement

We are actively involved in the second phase of the "System Development and Quality Improvement of Thai Journals Indexed in Scopus" project. This initiative aims to enhance the quality and visibility of Thai academic journals globally and ensure that our publications meet international standards of excellence.

As we embark on this New Year, we remain dedicated to promoting rigorous and impactful research in Buddhist studies. We invite scholars and practitioners worldwide to contribute to JIBS and join us in advancing the understanding and application of Buddhist teachings in today's world.

JIBS Activities: Call for Submission: Buddhism and Contemporary Challenges

The Editorial Board of the Journal of International Buddhist Studies (JIBS) is pleased to announce a call for submissions. We particularly encourage submission of papers related to Buddhism and contemporary themes. We invite scholars, researchers, advanced practitioners, and doctoral candidates to submit original, objective, and innovative academic studies that explore intersections between Buddhism and contemporary concerns. Papers that are accepted for publication in this SCOPUS-indexed academic journal are subject to rigorous peer review and editorial processes and reach a global audience.

Subthemes:

JIBS is particularly interested in publishing high-quality articles on how Buddhism adapts, confronts, or prevails in contemporary contexts: economic, social, and cultural aspects of modern societies, universal philosophy, environmental sustainability, mindfulness, and mental health. Ethics and artificial intelligence, values, and social justice or gender equality; the wisdom of traditions in the age of globalization.

Submission Guidelines:

We welcome thoughtful contributions, including empirical research, academic studies, comparative analyses, and critical case studies. Submissions should conform to the following guidelines:

- Language: English
- Length: 5,000-8,000 words, inclusive of references
- Format: Chicago style, as per journal specifications
- Abstract: A 200-250 word abstract must accompany all submissions.
- Keywords: Five to seven relevant keywords should be provided.

Timeline:

Deadlines for Full Paper Submission:
- 31 December 2024 (Planned Publication Date: March 2025)
- 5 April 2025 (Planned Publication Date: July 2025)
